My familiy went to “Sanrio exibition” at Kyocera museum in Kyoto, Japan.
The exibiton starts from 7th October.
Sanrio is 60th anniversity!! Did you know Sanrio was so old?!

Anyways, “that was cute and amazing”, we said on the way home.

Our apartment is in Osaka, so we used Keihan train to get to Kyoto.

From Sanjyo station, the museum is pretty far.
It took 15 minutes on foot.
I would recommend you to use a bus.

There is Heian Shrine near the museum.
Kyocera museum is modern designed building.
京セラ美術館、モダンなデザインの建物です。

Weather wasn’t good.
It was cloudy.

The Sanrio exhibition was on the 2nd floor.

The first floor was the Andy Warhol exhibition. You need to go downstairs to B1, then back upstairs to the first floor.

We bought our tickets a day in advance. I recommend buying in advance so you don’t need to wait in line as long.

When you show the QR code the staff will give you a physical ticket to open the gate.

The Sanrio exhibition permitted pictures and video. (Touching the exhibitions was not permitted.)

When you first enter there is a big art piece using various Sanrio stuffed toys like Cinnamoroll and Kuromi.

Sanrio is 60 years old and so it has a lot of history. One of the company’s first publications was for a young girls’ manga.

I was very surprised that My Melody was such an old character. (She felt like a newer character.) I also didn’t know she was modelled after Little Red Riding Hood. (I wasn’t interested in Sanrio until my daughter was born.)

In her firest design her nose was bigger.
The bottom is her current design.

There were descriptions of the characters and their history written too.
There’s so many Sanrio characters that they couldn’t show them all, but they still managed to show a lot of them.

I’ve seen many of the characters before.

The Sanrio characters from the 1970’s took inspiration from American illustrations and animation.

Hangyodon’s designer was a Japanese man, but the character is Chinese. I didn’t know that!

In Pom Pom Purin’s first design he doesn’t have his hat. So cute!

Cinnamoroll is my favourite Sanrio character.

Kuromi is really cute. Girls who wear Jirai-kei fashion seem to love Kuromi.

There was a big Hello Kitty. (Her Japanese voice actress Megumi Hayashibara was not inside.)

Lady Gaga wore this Hello Kitty dress.

It seems Sanrio is popular even overseas. Hello Kitty is especially popular in North America. (Avril Lavigne even sang a song about it.)

Of course there was a gift shop.

We bought a stuffed toy and a towel.
This My Melody stuffed toy is so cute.

I was really surprised that Sanrio had such a long history. There were kids as well as parents enjoying the nostalgia.
The Aggretsuko anime was also good but it wasn’t in the exhibit.

It was a lot of fun and I recommend checking out the exhibition if you can. 🙂
