After going to Kyocera Museum in Kyoto we stopped by Heian Jingu Shrine.
It was the first time to bring our daughter there. The shrine is very close to the museum.
There is a giant torii at the entrance.
I wrote about it in a previous article but…
From Osaka to Kyoto we used the Keihan railway and walked for 15 minutes from Sanjyo Station. I recommend taking the bus.
The entrance had an amazing atmosphere. It was free to enter the shrine.
Heian Jingu is located in Kyoto city Ukyoku and has a history of 1,100 years.
From the entrace to the inner shrine there isn’t much distance. During New Year’s it must be very crowded, but during Sports Day (public holiday) it wasn’t as crowded. There was also omikuji (fortune telling).
There isn’t much time left in the year but I decided to do it anyway.
It was 200 yen and I got “small luck” lol.
After omikuji there’s a tree for tying up fortune papers with bad luck.
There’s also a garden you can enter for 600 yen or 300 yen for children.
It was a beautiful garden that was popular in the Meiji era.
Japan’s oldest train was inside. Over 100 years old!
There were many different types of plants growing.
There was also a rest stop.
We saw many plants, berries, and mushrooms.
It’s hard to tell from the photo but there were beautiful flowers growing on the lily pads in the pond, and koi fish too.
Even though it’s October, it was still around 20 degrees and a bit warm with long sleeves. It felt cool under the trees.
The greenery was beautiful but I can tell it will be even more amazing when the leaves change colour.
We took a rest partway.
I love the beautiful red umbrellas.
The menu.
Depending on the season the menu changes what sweets are offered, so instead of castella we were served matcha roll cake.
My wife’s matcha set.
My Ousu set (red bean dessert and matcha).
They were both delicious. Sweets pair well with bitter matcha.
My daughter was also enjoying herself.
The garden was very large. Next to the rest stop there was a large building.
There was a wedding venue located there, and that day a couple was taking their wedding photos.
The weather that day made the water look a bit murky, even so, it was a great place.
If you’re able to come to Kyoto, I recommend visiting Heian Jingu.
